Attitude of foreign students, who study in the Russian Federation, to physical culture lessons and sport (by the example of Yelabuga Institute of Kazan Federal University)

Abstract:

The main form of physical upbringing organization in the system of higher education is physical culture lessons. While organizing physical upbringing among foreign students it is necessary to take into consideration the language barrier, motor experience, interests and needs of students in mastering new kinds of physical culture and sport activity. Materials. Studying the attitude of foreign students to physical culture lessons and sport at a higher educational establishment. Research methods. Information sources analysis and summarizing, questionnaire survey, methods of mathematical statistics. Practical relevance of the research is in the use of the received results in order to realize a differentiated approach while planning physical culture lessons with foreign students. Research novelty is in getting new information concerning gender and age-related characteristics of foreign students, their preferences in kinds of sport and physical exercises. Results. The research results analysis showed that foreign students show great interest in physical culture lessons both at the 1st and the 2nd courses. However, the level of interest is higher among boys than among girls. Most foreign students prefer sports games: boys choose football and volleyball, girls prefer volleyball. In this connection students don’t show desire to go in for athletics, gymnastics, skiing, swimming. The interest in physical culture lessons among students decreases by the 2nd course. Conclusion. Thus, during physical upbringing of foreign students at a higher educational establishment it is necessary to increase the interest in athletics, gymnastics, swimming and skiing and actively involve girls into physical culture lessons.
